IN FOND MEMORY OF PAST GUESTS

Mike Ingle We all were so sorry to hear about Mike Ingle losing his battle with cancer. He fought it bravely, but he had to go through some very tough times. We are sure he is pulling in some "big ones " up in the "Great Lakes in Heaven". His family are big into fishing. His Mom and Dad have come to Grassy Narrows way before we bought it. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mike's family. God Bless all of you.
Arnie Allen - 2005

The Allen Family informed us that Mr. Allen passed away January 24, 2005. He was a long time guest of Grassy going back to 1974. Arnie and his wife Carol along with his two sons Mark and Jeff made many trips to Grassy sometimes two times a year. Arnie had MS but he certainly did not let that slow him down. Our thoughts and prayers will be with him.

Grassy Narrows is sad to report the deaths in 2004 of 3 people who were well known and well loved at Grassy.

First of these is long time friend and guide, Bob Westberg. Bob guided at Grassy Narrows for 14 years before we bought the resort. He guided for us until 1992. Bob built up a big following and at times, it was hard to satisfy all the guests that requested him. Then one day my beautician from Union Grove, Wisconsin came to see our camp. Being a single attractive young lady and Bob being a single handsome young fellow, well, after two years of dating, they were married in Burlington, Wisconsin in a beautiful park by a river. They honeymooned on a cruise to Alaska. Something they both had dreamed about doing. Bob retired from guiding and moved to Union Grove to start a new and different life. Sandy worked hard at her beauty shop and Bob worked at a butcher shop. They had a beautiful home in the Grove, plus they purchased a home in northern Wisconsin. Bob had many health problems and eventually his body gave out. He died in his native country, Canada in early March of 2004. Bob left us with some wonderful memories and we all will miss him.

Another person we will miss at Grassy is Mr. Bill Appleby. Mr. Appleby was a guest at Grassy for many years. He loved fishing. When all of his fishing buddies were gone, he still fished. He drove to Grassy, by himself, with his boat in tow, to the amazement of our guests. He lucked out when his daughter, Lynn married Gordy, a young man that also loved to fish. Now he had a new fishing partner. Bill fished until his health absolutely won’t let him anymore. If there is fishing in Heaven, I know what Bill is doing right now.

John Hansen not only was a Grassy Narrows guest, he was also a personal friend of ours. We met John many years ago. When we were in Wisconsin for the winters, we would go out for fish fries on Friday nights with him and other friends. John loved to fish in Canada. He came at least 3 times a year to Canada to fish. He also loved to hunt in the Western United States for all different types of animals. John had knee problems, but it did not stop him from his enthusiasm for fishing and hunting. He put up with the pain getting in and out of the boat and I am sure walking in the woods hunting was painful too. But he never complained. He always had a wonderful sense of humor and a great big contagious smile. We will miss you John.

Our staff was saddened this year at the death of Ashley, Waylon and Allan Gibbins brother. Ashley was a very young person and he had a boating accident. We offer our sympathy to his family.

EUGENE DALE REIM
1935 - December 24, 2001
Dear husband of Alice J. Reim (nee Swartzlander); dear father of Barbara, Theodore, David Reim; dear son of Dolores Reim and the late Theodore; dear brother of Karen Williams, Judy McKee, Theodore, Robert and Gary Reim; dear brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend to many. Funeral was held at the NEW KUTIS SOUTH COUNTY Chapel, 5255 Lemay Ferry Rd.
Contributions to the American Heart Assn. appreciated.
Morson Outfitters is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Gene Reim, a long time member of our Lodge, who had a heart attack on Christmas Eve and passed away.
In his 9 years with the Hawg Hawlers, Gene had won 6 individual tournament Big Bass awards. Two of those were Big Bass of the Year (1995 & 1999). He came in second in the Angler of the Year for 1995. He was consistently in the top ten in the points standings. He holds the Club/Lake Record for Truman Lake. In 1995 Gene caught a 7.40 lb Largemouth at Lake of the Ozarks, that is the current All Time Record for the Hawg Hawlers Bass Club.
Gene has finished "in the money", more times than most other club members, and he did this while sharing some (but not all) pattern information with other club members prior to the tournaments.
Gene retired from NIKE in 1998, and kept very active with the pastime he so loved and was so proficient at - fishing, right up until his passing. He was a very close personal friend of many club members. He was a fine, highly respected man, and touched many lives. He will be missed by many.
Rest in Peace, Gene.

Daniel J Temple, Sr.
June 14, 1947 - January 17, 2002

Grassy Narrows would like to offer sympathy to the family of Dan Temple of Green Bay, Wisconsin. Dan was not only a good friend, but also a cousin of ours. Dan and his family have been coming to Grassy Narrows for many years. Dan's wife, sons, granddaughters, brothers, nephews, uncles, and friends came and had many happy memories and experiences with Dan at Grassy. Dan passed away on January 17th of this year. He was an avid fisherman and he had many more hobbies. He liked to do woodworking and gardening. But fishing was his favorite thing to do.
Grassy Narrows will miss you Dan. And I know if there is fishing in Heaven, you are really pulling in some "BIG ONES". God Bless you Dan.

Bob Grummer
June 27, 1916 – April 18, 2006

When the Eagan Group got to Morson they told us of one regular that was missing. Bob Grummer was a frequent guest of Grassy Narrows Lodge and part of the Mike Eagan Group from Madison WI. who took there first visit to Grassy in 1996. Bob was a well known and respected professor at the University of Wisconsin. Bob loved to fish, and will be missed by his friends.

Clarence R. “Pogy” Pogreba
August 16, 1941 – February 24, 2006

A BIG man with a BIG heart. Pogy was a kind, generous and lovable person. Plus he had a wonderful sense of humor. You always heard laughter when he was around. He loved telling jokes. He loved people and being around them.

Pogy, Ted Janot and Jerry were on the USS Constellation CVA64 from 1962 to 1965 and have been close friends ever since.

We will miss Pogy. Grassy Narrows is very happy that his wife, Dianne and some of his friends are carrying on his tradition and returning to Grassy in 2007.

Wayne Garr

How do you describe Wayne? He was a very interesting person to talk to. He always had some exciting adventure that he had traveled and he didn’t mind sharing his stories with us. Wayne and his wife would travel to Europe to see opera’s and he once went on a Russian freighter to break ice. He was

always giving his son in law, Steve a hard time. In fun, of course. Steve said Wayne taught him more than just how to catch walleye. Those two were always laughing and I know Wayne was Steve’s best fishing buddy. Wayne enjoyed fishing with his grandson, Dewey, too. We will miss the stories and the man who told them. God Bless you, Wayne.

Robin King

We still miss Robin. She was the kind of person that you just don’t forget … She was fun and she made us all laugh a lot. She was very much a lady. When she walked into the dining room for dinner she always looked like she was going to one of the fanciest restaurants in town. Usually she wore white. An elegant lady. She wasn’t a fisherperson before she married Tom King, but she would go musky fishing with Tom and she enjoyed it. At least she let us all think she did,,, Robin we know you have earned your spot sitting right next to your Creator. We will remember you in our hearts and prayers.
