What to Bring...
To your Wilderness Experience
on Beautiful Lake of the Woods - Canada

  • Groceries.
  • Fishing and/or hunting gear.
  • A good raincoat.
  • Personal care items.
  • Sport clothes, and regular attire.
  • In summer you will need a bathing suit
  • A few warmer clothes for evenings or chilly days.
  • In fall you will need some light clothing as well as your insulated wear.
  • We suggest you bring a thermos, flashlight and a clock.
  • Licenses, bait, tackle, and small necessities are available at our camp store.
  • Important Note:The border has become increasingly vigilant for visitors with prior convictions for DUI/DWI infraction along with other minor charges on individual's records. When the Fort Frances/Rainy River Border Office was connected online giving them access the drivers license information on visitors, (because of the gun registration issue) they increased their surveillance on fisherman.
If you have a prior conviction please call us for more information, we're here to help.

If you do not want to keep all of your fish, handle them with care, use barbless hooks, and be careful with landing nets. We have cradles that you are welcome to use, they will greatly increase the chances the fish will be returned to the water uninjured.

  • There is a 15% charge on unpaid bills at time of departure.
  • Pack worms in bedding, not in dirt.
  • Do not use radar detectors in Canada. They are against the law and will be confiscated. The police department uses RADAR DETECTOR - DETECTORS !
  • Hand Guns are not allowed in Canada.
  • The Speed Limit on reservations, and you may pass through 1 or 2 on your way to our camp is 60 kph, that's 35 mph. Careful !
  • If you would like a list of other means of transportation, ie: flights, bus or limo to our camp... please let us know. We can give you the info or quote you a price.
  • If you would like extra brochures, select our info button and fill out the form. We would be glad to mail them to you.
  • We will be offering a chance to see more of the lake you are fishing. A flying service out of Nestor Falls is in our area regularly. He has given us good rates for short sightseeing trips around our area. See more information in the "Rate" section.
  • If you bring a pet to Grassy, bring a portable kennel with you. Pets should not be left unattended on the Island.
  • We are in favor of and will enforce all hunting and fishing regulations. Please do your part and exercise good sportsmanship.
  • Special Diet? If you have any special dietary requirements, please let us know in advance so we will be prepared to meet your needs.
  • We recommend you pack your rods in rod holders. We handle them 8 times from our car and back. We are not responsible for breaking unprotected rods.
  • Steel Shot is required in Canada.
  • Hunter Orange clothing is required. All Licensed hunters, including archery hunters hunting the gun season for deer and moose are required to wear hunter orange. Bear hunters are required to wear hunter orange except when in a tree stand. Water fowl hunters and archery hunters in archery-only areas are exempt from the hunter orange requirement.
Hunter orange must cover a minimum of 400 square inches above the waist and be visible from all sides. A hunting coat or vest generally meets this requirement. Hunter orange head cover is also required. Camouflage or open mesh hunter orange does not satisfy this requirement.
  • Notice to Non-Resident Hunters You must be at least 16 years of age and must provide a current or expired hunting license from any country, state or province in order to obtain an Ontario hunting license.
  • Guns must be registered when entering Canada Starting this year, 2001, all guns must be registered at the Canadian border when entering Canada. There is a once a year charge of $50.00 American. The Registration certificate is good for 60 days. If you come back to Canada after 60 days then you must stop at the Canadian Border and pick up a new Registration certificate. There is no charge for this.
When you leave Canada after hunting, you must stop at the Canadian Customs and show them that you are bringing the same guns back out of the country.
If you are serious about catch and release, please consider this. When a fish is brought into the boat, is is like running a marathon and being told to hold your breath. When you bring the fish into the boat, start holding your breath. Put the fish back into the water before you have to start breathing again.
